The subscriptions series of the 2022/2023 “Refrain” concert season

You are warmly welcome to the Kodály Centre or Müpa in Budapest in the 2022/2023 concert season. Reserve you seat as a subscription holder so that music can return to your life as a recurring Refrain during the entire cycle. It is an excellent way to relax and recharge your batteries, either alone or with your family or friends. PFZ is the only orchestra in Hungary to provide you with a Family Programme in the framework of which children between 6 and 18 years of age are entitled to free-of-charge subscriptions to any concert (within a subscription series) of the Pannon Philharmonic. If you are interested in this opportunity, please, contact Ms Blanka Tátrai at tatrai.blanka@pfz.hu.

REFRAIN - The humorous hallmark of the new Pannon Philharmonic season’s promotion is the work of a young student designer winning the logo tender of the orchestra. The emblem is Luca Bors’ creative articulation of constancy giving hope and revival in a permanently changing world: PFZ brings music into our lives and a smile on our faces similarly to a recurring refrain.

The PANNON SERIES for music lovers in the capital

ON FRIDAYS, FROM 7.30 PM IN MÜPA, BUDAPEST

The ensemble's commitment to high quality is a source of joy. Admiration for the beauties of human existence as well as suffering searching for a way out of hardship both features in its subscription series. Perhaps, this is what makes it so important that we immerse ourselves in its music from time to time. Our emotions, quests, and desires are with us in the concert hall. The expressivity of the composers, the impulsive presence of the performers, and the receptive anticipation of the audience enable us to become united and melt in music.

OUR PERFORMANCES PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF HUMAN PERSEVERANCE AND RESPECT FOR OUR SHARED VALUES AND LIFE.

The musical programme of the Pannon Philharmonic is much more than a few randomly juxtaposed concerts. Enchanté, as the season, welcomes us warmly, reminding us that the only worthwhile way is going back to the Pure Source Only. The concert titles Blooming in Heart, The Rite of Spring, and the Triumph of Life give you confidence and hope per sé, even without music. The programme is motivated by musical treats, novelties, rarely or never before performed masterpieces, and the dynamism of constancy.

The cutting-edge performance of the orchestra is complemented by the uncompromising musical direction of the ensemble's chief conductor, Tibor Bogányi, and the returning guest conductors, Peter Eötvös and Gilbert Varga. Prominent international soloists, such as the violinist Alissa Margulis, cellist Sung-Won Yang, violist Antoine Tamestit, the soprano Lena Belkina and the conductor Andrei Yurkevich will feature during the season.

The five Budapest concerts encompass compositions ranging from the Classical Period to Romanticism, Late Romanticism, 20th century- and contemporary music, each of which has some surprises in store as well as familiar melodies.

Subscription prices: HUF 24.900, 21.900, 17.900, 12.900

THE KODÁLY SERIES - FOR THOSE FOR WHOM MUSIC IS A MOTHER TONGUE

ON THURSDAYS, FROM 7 PM IN THE KODÁLY CENTRE, PÉCS

The Thursday concerts of the Kodály Series, the actual cornerstone of the music life of the Kodály Centre, will accompany music lovers throughout the entire season from September to June. The series opens with Scriabin capturing colours in sound and Liszt turning the colours of Dante's afterlife into music. In October, we can immerse into rural country life, man's natural "habitat", thanks to Beethoven. The Pannon Philharmonic will play in the Golden Hall of the Viennese Musikverein in the autumn.

OWING TO THE PÉCS-BASED ORCHESTRA FOUNDED BY GEORG LICKL 210 YEARS AGO, THE MUSIC LIVES OF VIENNA AND PÉCS, THE VIENNA VIBE AND PÉCS SHAKE CAN REUNITE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER

In December, we will go back to the purest source: Béla Bartók's universal work, which has already passed the test of time, and Peter Eötvös' compositions most welcome and played joyfully all over the world are the imprints of human and artistic purity. We can recharge our batteries with Grieg and Dohnányi's works, uplifting and optimistic even on the deadest and coldest of winter nights. The spring will bring us a unique artistic reunion: we'll be able to enjoy Bartók's complete symphonic works for violin for the very first time. The soloist and the composer's brilliance will show us the portrait of an artist whose humanity and musical qualities we must recognise to still a greater depth. Who else should we celebrate in May if not the Woman whose musical gift and creative imagination come to bloom during the concert? The final event of the series already evokes summer and the sea, while the "encore concert" will make us part of the greatest miracle, Creation itself. All concertos performed during the series will feature the most prominent stars of the world, merging virtuosity with a soul immersing in music.

Subscription prices – Full price: HUF 27.400, 23.400, 18.400 ; for students/senior citizens: HUF 22.900, 19.700, 17.500

THE PANNONICUM series for those for whom music is the icing on the cake

AT WEEKENDS, FROM 6 PM IN THE KODÁLY CENTRE IN PÉCS

We recommend this series to music lovers – even from the broader region or Croatia – who wish to chill after the treadmill of the laborious working week. The concerts last for around two hours, but you won't need to leave your children unattended for the duration of the shows: craft workshops are held for kindergarten and primary school kids so that their parents can enjoy music free of care. The series has true treats in store: for instance, the premiere of Ernest Chausson's French musical poems or the highly popular composer of the musical theatre, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem, whose Pie Jesu has garnered worldwide acclaim.

The series is abundant in instrumental challenges, such as Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos or Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. The Ukrainian conductor of the final concert conveys the message through Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss that whatever should happen in the world, life will triumph over death. The soloists of the series are prominent figures of the international music scene, while our guests will be the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir. The Plus 1 concert is the next episode of the now established and successful opera co-production series of the Pannon Philharmonic and Müpa.

Subscription prices – Full price: HUF 26.900, 22.900, 16.900 ; for students/senior citizens: HUF 20.300, 17.200, 13.500

the MUSICA SACRA series for those for whom music is festivity and hope

BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS IN THE KODÁLY CENTRE AND THE CATHEDRAL IN PÉCS

The Musica Sacra series is more than just a bouquet of sacred music. These concerts attempt to answer the questions that each of us asks during our lifetime. What will happen when we die? What are earthly love and heavenly joy? How to love well so that we can become immortal, at least in the hearts of those who know us? What can be after death, and do we have the possibility to influence the great beyond with our life and decisions? These are universal questions that each composer and performer answers in their own unique way at the feasts when we can experience the mystery of life in the community of our contemporaries.

Subscription prices: HUF 8.500, 7.500, 6.500

Do you sometimes confuse virtual and real experiences? Do you perceive what you see or what you feel? On your skin, with your heart and rhythm. The promotion for the latest season of the Pannon Philharmonic reinforces Refrain with the tricks of filmmaking and the sometimes annoying, sometimes relaxing dynamism of music: we whiz around in our daily lives, scroll and consume each other’s contents.

But the moment comes when we desire nothing more intensely than to relax. We lay back in the comfortable seats of the concert hall, close our eyes and start recharging our batteries. The short movie, using video excerpts downloaded from the internet and the audience's viewpoint peeping through the slots between the seats, depicts our lives' concerto as an image poem, needing a slow movement from time to time: a real, reassuring and recurring experience, like a refrain.
