10th ANNIVERSARY
OF KODÁLY CENTRE

The Kodály Centre, home of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, is 10 years old. To celebrate the anniversary, we are presenting our compilation and our film, Kodály ’10 – Home of the Inspiration.

"The hall is wonderful, but this miracle belongs not only to Pécs and Hungary, but a part of the world's cultural life. I have played at many venues, and I can say that this concert center belongs to the elite. In addition to its beauty, its logistics is also excellent, its atmosphere is warm and pleasant. Architecture is often considered as music set into stone. Well, this time, an architectural Stradivari was created here ... "
(Maxim Vengerov)
Pannon Philharmonic is a resident orchestra of Kodály Centre of excellent acoustics. When architects, Ferenc Keller, Tamás Fialovszky, Richárd Hőnich and Benedek Sólyom designed the building, they applied "golden ratio" of arts as their guiding principle. The building, keeping the proportions set by the Fibonacci sequence in mind, gives a spiral impression from a bird's eye view, and the almost 1000-seat-capacity concert hall nests in the protected core of the venue. The white limestone cladding of the building also reminds the casual observer to the spiral shells of a snail, with its long series of windows giving an insight for but also rising the curiosity of the approaching visitors.
The interior design solutions of the building were created by two Pécs designers, László Rádóczy and Zoltán Tolnai, while Arató Éva has an unmistakable merit in the excellent acoustics of the Grand Hall.

"A great venue was unveiled in Pécs that resembles the Palace of Art (Müpa) in that it has a stage and a auditorium, but it is also a concert hall of human scale that is equally suitable for a philharmonic-orchestra concerts, chamber music, string quartet, solo piano or solo violin or other solo instrument events" ( Zoltán Kocsis)

The core of classical music offer at the concert and conference center built in 2010 is provided by the orchestral, chamber and children concerts by the Pannon Philharmonic, while jazz and pop music productions are also often performed and numerous conferences are held in the venue, too.
Thanks to excellent studio technology, several recordings of the Pannon Philharmonic have been made in the Grand Hall, including recordings with Benjamin Schmid and István Várdai, which can be ordered for the ticket office of the Kodály Centre.
