The Kossuth Prize-winning pianist Gergely Bogányi awaits his audience at the Kodály Centre in Pécs. This time, however, the evening does not go as usual. The programme is put together by the audience.
In the concert it is not Bogányi who makes decisions on the programme:the audience can cherry-pick the pieces they want to hear from Chopin's rich oeuvre. This unconventional concept not only engages the audience but also adds a new colour to the concert experience. "I have always believed that classical music is a live dialogue between the artist and the audience. Chopin's pieces are especially suitable for this dialogue, because everyone will find something personal in them. Now we will really write the story of the concert together,” says Bogányi.
Throughout his career as a pianist, Bogányi has shown his dedication to Chopin, with his interpretations appearing on several recordings. Perhaps his most memorable venture was 15 years ago, when he celebrated the composer's 200th birthday by performing Chopin's complete piano works in 10 concerts over 2 days. Reflecting on the experience, he recalls, "It was one of the greatest challenges and most beautiful experiences of my life—an extraordinary physical and spiritual journey. The memory still accompanies each of my Chopin performances."
So this evening is not just a concert, but a joint adventure: the artist and the audience shape the program together and build its cohesion together. "I want everyone to feel that they are part of what is happening on stage. Not only will they be listeners but also co-creators of the concert. Thisgenerates a strong bond between artist, audience and the music,” says Bogányi.
The extraordinary recital offers Pécs audiences a unique chance. For one night, they can leave behind the traditional concert format and witness music created in the moment's magic.
