On the final night of our Flirt Series, we'll definitely be spellbound by our two cello soloists, who've found the virtuosity of the 2Cellos in classical music. The top-ranking programme of this fourth and closing concert in May will allow us a glimpse into the highest spheres of classical music and clearly demonstrate that the two cellists are at least as virtuosic as the popular 2Cellos. Our chief conductor Tibor Bogányi will partner with the excellent Liszt Award-winning cellist and professor of the University of Music, István Várdai. Maestro Bogányi will now play his solo instrument, the cello, which he is a master of, regularly giving recitals. What other title would this performance deserve, if not Good Things Come in Pairs?

There is a common misconception that "conductors wave with their hands or batons instead of playing on an instrument because they are worse performers than the others." At this concert, the conductor will attempt to defy this misconception. During the first piece, he will also take to the stage as a soloist alongside the other cello soloist of the evening, playing a double concerto with him. Vivaldi is well-known for his spectacular concertos and ear-worm sequences. In this piece, it will come to show in a "duo pack". After that, both go back to their usual realm: the conductor will return to play "the orchestra" in Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor. This lyrical work represents the passions of another era and is already a path-finder towards the world of symphonies.  The programme will conclude with the greatest symphony of the great poet and great dreamer, Schubert, which made a great impression on Schumann as well, who described it as a piece of "heavenly length". This symphony is grandiose and ambitious at the same time. Still, its second movement is personal and intimate, like a Lied.
