Donghoon Shin: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra – world premier
Witold Lutosławski: Concerto for Orchestra
Interludes, concertos for orchestra, operatic elements – allusions to Bartók’s Concerto, which, however, will not be performed this evening. The audience will instead hear the Four Sea Interludes from Britten’s popular opera, Peter Grimes. Similarly to many other operas, this music also rose from the orchestra pit to be revived on the stage. This will be followed by a violin concerto’s first ever performance, which was specially written for the Pannon Philharmonics and Kristóf Baráti. The composer stated that his work was inspired by literature, namely by Jorge Luis Borges and intertextuality. In the traditionally structured concerto, we find several experimental elements, for instance the entire history of concertos summed up in a single movement. The night will be concluded by a Concerto composed - not by Bartók this time – but by Witold Lutosławski. As opposed to Bartók’s piece, this Concerto consists of only three movements, and its folk musical allusions are much more strongly present than in Bartók’s work. A great amount of interesting and novel elements will characterise the concert.
The legendary violinist, Ida Haendel described the young Baráti with the following words: „Kristóf is the most talented violinist of his and many generations. He is an extraordinary person. His performance could be characterised with pure intonation, beautiful timbre, a natural sense of music. A true soloist.” (Fidelio)
