Dance of the Violin
Béla Bartók: Violin Concerto No. 1, Op. posth.
Béla Bartók: Rhapsody No. 2
Zoltán Kodály: Dances of Galánta
Virtuoso violin playing has inspired composers for centuries. Especially Gypsy fiddlers of Hungary; even Brahms, Bartók and Kodály paid tribute to them. At this concert, we can hear some of these works, but not only these.
The guest performance of the Lower-Austria Tonkünstler-Orchester begins with the burnished Vienna-based Brahms's Tragic Overture and continues with a violin concerto commemorating Bartók's early love affair. Rhapsody No. 2, on the other hand, was no longer conceived under the influence of the beautiful and young Stefi Geyer, but that of the Hungarian temperament, while in the Dances of Galánta, Kodály recalls his childhood memories of the virtuoso, vibrant play of Gypsy fiddlers . And the violins dance in every piece, differently in each one of them. May I have this dance?
