Not only did Munkácsy paint a Christ trilogy, but Liszt did too! In fact, he painted the very scenes of Jesus' life in the 14 tableaux divided into three groups that Munkácsy had omitted. What is Liszt like as a painter? Monumental, colourful, sublime, yet personal.
He was writing his Christ for almost 20 years, and although he had long been looking for a suitable librettist, he eventually composed the text himself. And although there is no narrative or dramatic plot in the story, it is possible to spend a whole evening with the angel who announced the birth of Jesus, the shepherds, the Magi, the Apostles, those celebrating Jesus, his followers, the manger and Mary standing next to the cross, and the joy of the resurrection. Experience it yourself!
