On this national holiday, the orchestra celebrates Hungarian composers, honouring the heroes and victims of the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence.

Spring, Freedom and Celebration

The Pannon Philharmonic traditionally celebrates Hungarian Freedom Memorial Day with an uplifting, festive concert featuring works by Hungarian masters. This year, along with Erkel and Egressy, we will welcome Liszt and Dohnányi as guests of honour.

Franz Liszt's virtuoso and extremely colourful piano concerto is a joy to experience, its energetic theme beloved by countless listeners. Ernst von Dohnányi's Ruralia hungarica, a "Pécs-born" masterpiece, premiered its original piano version in this very city. Dohnányi cherished playing this audience favourite throughout his life, later creating the vibrant orchestral arrangement that you will hear at this special event.
