The most significant social event of the Kodály Centre is the New Year Concert of the Pannon Philharmonic. The performers and the programme of the concert, which takes place on 2 January each year, have many surprises in store. Still, there is one sure thing: one of the highlights of the concert, conducted by Tibor Bogányi, is the "Pécs applause", when the audience claps in several parts to the well-known rhythm of the Radetzky March, traditionally performed at the Viennese New Year’s Concert. It has been an established tradition of the Advent that the audience can vote for their favourite male and female musicians, who will be presented with this honour at the reception by the orchestra's management and the sponsors of the prize. A novelty in 2026 is that the previously private reception has been opened to the public: Anyone from the audience can purchase a ticket for the exclusive smörgåsbord buffet organised by Teleky Catering and will therefore have the opportunity to conclude this delightful evening with the lovely company of orchestra members and the performing soloists.
