A Celebrated New World
Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen
Antonín Dvořák: The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95
Music of success stories; works that were not only great hits in their own time but also defined their entire era and the ones after them.
Mozart did not know at the time of writing this concerto that it would be part of a coronation ceremony, but when two years later, he was invited to perform at the coronation ceremonies of Emperor Leopold II, he chose this piano concerto besides another one. He probably also felt the optimism and solemnity of the work. Although Dvořák's New World Symphony was written during a period of homesickness, it has become the most successful piece in the composer's entire oeuvre. It is also an inspiring piece of music that even Star Wars's soundtrack owes much to. If you need a little optimism, we certainly recommend this concert!
