Kurtág 100
Kurtág György: Double Concerto Op. 27, No. 2
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”
Although György Kurtág is one of the explicitly avant-garde composers, he is also a marvellous expert and interpreter of the great classical composers. It is, therefore, absolutely legitimate that he should celebrate his birthday in the company of one of them, Beethoven. Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 1, op. 27, will be followed by an op. 2 from Kurtág's oeuvre. The composition, written for cello, piano, and a symphony orchestra, simultaneously reflects on Baroque musical traditions, exploits the instruments' capacities, and showcases the feats of Kurtág's time. The concert will conclude with one of Beethoven's most influential symphonies, the Eroica, imbued with a heroic mission. Come and celebrate with us! Bartók Rádió will live-stream the concert.
The concert will be recorded by Bartók Radio and broadcast live.
The project is part of the BMC Kurtág 100 program series.
