In cooperation with the Jelenkor Publishing House, the Pannon Philharmonic commissioned the young Junior Prima Award-winning composer, Máté Balogh, to set some of the poems of the renowned Pécs-based poet and former editor-in-chief of Jelenkor, László Bertók, to symphonic music. The poet's musically-toned writings – with a structure moving from more complex to simpler motifs – were revived to new life, in fact, a new meaning in and through symphonic music: Bertók's lyric work asking the essential questions of human existence provides a strong musical impetus. Máté Balogh's composition based on Bertók's work is titled Ants’ March. Its world premiere will take place on the poet's birthday, which will also serve as the foundation event for Jelenkor's new award: it will be for the first time this year that the Bertók Prize, established with the kind support of László Bertók's son, Attila Bertók, has been awarded. We will also hear a poetry recital featuring László Bertók's poems and the works of the very first awardee.
