It is always a heart-warming sensation to see when a contemporary fellow-Hungarian slowly secures his place among the nation's great. We can bear witness to this - also in a professional sense-, when we can listen second time of Peter Eötvös's new composition (the word-premiere was in 25th March in Kodály Centre) in the company of Béla Bartók's piano piece re-arranged by Zoltán Kocsis as well as welcome an international guest-composition: the Polish Witold Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra. Prior to the concert, you are welcome to join us for the podium-discussion with Peter Eötvös, who is the sole living composer whose work will feature on the programme and also the concert's conductor. Perhaps, this conversation will take even less keen-eared audience members closer to the world of contemporary music, opening their hearts and senses to keep track of the most recent works of music history. In the Bartók-Kocsis piece, we can hear how the younger pianist regards the great Hungarian pianist preceding him, while in Eötvös's new work, the master claims to have “tried to make audible what Ulysses could never hear”. Lutosławski pays tribute to Polish folk music traditions with his great piece featuring at the concert.

„IT’S NOT EASY TO BE A COMPOSER IN TODAY’S WORLD, AS ALL OF THEM WISH THEIR WORKS TO BE KNOWN TO THE WIDEST POSSIBLE AUDIENCE, NOT ONLY TO A FEW MUSIC CRITIQUES AND MUSICOLOGISTS.  [...] THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS, THOUGH. ONE OF THESE IF PETER EÖTVÖS HIMSELF, WHO IS ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR CONTEMPORARY COMPOSERS WITH GOOD REASON.” (PAPAGENO)
