Welcome-speech of Mihály Mayer, Bishop of Diocese of Pécs
Dear Music-loving Audience of our City, our Region, our Capital,
As the Bishop of the thousand-year-old Diocese of Pécs, it is my pleasure to greet the Reader of these pages.
Music is power. The last millennium counted numerous studies discussing how music can affect people. Not merely by influencing mind and spirit, but moreover by inspiring actions. The wide scale of music leaves no one untouched. All who are representatives of this art are responsible for the way how they affect their audience. Celebrating its 200th anniversary, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra can proudly take this responsibility since the pearls of music are on their repertoire. Musical compositions, that has stood the proof of time and has brought delight and sensation to their listeners. However, we all know that the string of perfectly composed notes in itself is just not enough without decent performance. Clear harmony between composer and performer can only create music able to address the audience.
We thank the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra for ever giving us the opportunity to share in the beauties of the world of music.
