Dear Concert-Goers,
Dear Audience,
We have recalled Pécs's rich musical inheritance several times with pride and bowed to our humble predecessors' invaluable work. Many years ago we tried to find a worthy continuation of the orchestra's traditions profession- and management-wise and to think together with the audience.
Time has proved that we were right in deciding that our mission had to be reaching the highest artistic standards with constant renewal.
These qualities make our orchestra able to adapt to the brand new conditions of financing culture, live up to social expectations and meet the requirements of the Pécs 2010 - European Capital of Culture Project.
I am proud and feel responsible at the same time when recommending the rich programme of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra to you. It is wonderful to live in a town where artistic life means continuous cooperation of local and world-famous artists, unique and unrepeatable experiences.
The orchestra's large-scale quality changes slowly go beyond a simple concert: our summer gala concert featuring Jose Carreras, the inspired concerts of the season, the packed houses in the most prestigious concert hall of Hungary all prove that Pécs is on the road to becoming a sparkling and exciting international musical centre. Thus, building the new concert hall, as one of the major investments of the Pécs 2010 project, is essential.
I believe that it is a common road that all of us have to walk along: responsible authorities, patrons open to values and appreciative audiences alike, no matter how long and hard it is.
It is our responsibility to notice moments and cases that need cooperation and active involvement. Bearing that in mind we have founded the Pannon MusicFriends' Society, where you are most welcome to.
ith a musicfriend's kind regards,
Zsolt Horváth
director
In the nearly two hundred years of its existence, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra has grown to be an outstanding figure on the Hungarian cultural scene. The Orchestra gives concerts to packed houses in Southern Transdanubia, Budapest and abroad, and is acknowledged by such international artists as Leopold Hager, Maxim Vengerov and Mischa Maisky. One result of the Orchestra's hard work is that Pécs will become Hungary's second capital in 2010 as the European Capital of Culture.
This innovative Orchestra, which has refreshed itself and been constantly developing in compliance to international expectations, today stands at the forefront of the Hungarian musical scene as one of its most colourful features. All performances of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra lay emphasis on quality and demands of their audience.
Efforts have been done by us that these two aspects – quality and our audience’s demands – come together in the future and our – sometimes unusual – ideas about classical music touch you deeply. The philosophy of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra is: the possibility of common interest between the Orchestra and You should be music, quality and innovative aims. If our ideas suit yours, we welcome you at our concerts or among our supporters.
