2010. January 2. - 2010. January 2.
The Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating its 200th jubilee designated Overture, expressing its message: the festive series consists of carefully composed programmes aiming at presenting all colours of symphonic music, beside synthetizing the past, present and future of symphonic orchestral music in Pécs.
In the recent decades, many researchers were devoted to discover and summarize the musical tradition of Pécs according to several aspects, periods and actors. The jubilee brochure you are holding is not able to introduce events, changes, excitements of the 200 years. Therefore, concluding the jubilee series, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra is going to publish an illustrated book about the artists, significant concerts, events and the history of the two centuries at the celebrations’ closing festival.
Our orchestra - and from 2011 the concert hall itself - will perform the new Overture of the forthcoming 200 years. We are pleased to hereby invite you to this performance. Join us during 100 weeks: let us remember the musicians and composers of the past, honour the musicians of the present and establish the basis of a flourishing music-oriented community.
The magnificent programme series embraces 100 weeks of events beginning with the New Year Concert (2nd January 2010) and concluded by the Gala Concert on the anniversary day of the founding performance (9th December 2011). During the 100 weeks, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes you, your family and friends at 200 occasions – concerts, discussions on radio and television, public meetings, open excursions, and diverse events.
Our musical voyage is borderless and never-ending. The Past is represented by exhibitions and essays evoking the founding composer Georg Lickl, late musicians and the musical history of Pécs. Meeting the artists of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, contemporary pieces and experiencing the concerts in these 2 years constitutes the Present, while the Future is composed by performances for children and youngsters, projects reflecting the new digital world, and creative competitions which are all devoted to establish the future of symphonic music of Pécs for the next 200 years.
