The Pannon Philharmonic begins their first whole season at the Kodály Centre in Pécs in the autumn of 2011. The building, lauded as an architectural Stradivari, has been really ripening during the last six months, like the well-known noble violins. And like those instruments, the house has its “soul” too: the music.

The Pannon Philharmonic kindly invites everybody, young and elderly, who is interested in music, to visit the concerts at the Kodály Centre as frequently as they can. Our diverse series offer pleasure to everyone, according their interest, free time or age. At the Cathedral of Pécs, our three-concert-series joined to our major religious festivals is continuing as well; and the orchestra is looking forward to meeting their audience also at the Palace of Arts in Budapest in the spring of 2012, at some weekends.

Which series shall I choose?

We recommend to GROWN-UPS:

Kodály and Breitner Season Ticket Series

Our Kodály and Breitner Season Ticket Series contain 10-10 philharmonic concerts, which are following each other on every other Thursday and beginning at 7.30pm. In the two series, seven concerts are the same; and there are 3-3 different ones. The Kodály and Breitner series differ from each other in 3-3 concerts heading musically in other directions. Our Kodály subscription series contains baroque, while our Breitner series crossover style concerts. If you are fond for old music, we will recommend our Kodály series; if you are interested in the new ways of symphonic music and musical experiments, the Breitner series is for you!

The seven concert-programs, similar in both season ticket series, cover a wide range of music literature, from the classical to the contemporary. Tibor Bogányi, the new chief conductor of the Pannon Philharmonic, conducts four concerts. One of the interesting features of the series is that Maestro Bogányi is performing with his brother, Gergely Bogányi pianist, in January. In both subscription series, we will host the Budapest Concerto, under the baton of András Keller, Howard Williams former music director, and Zoltán Kocsis permanent guest conductor of our orchestra. Among the soloists, we can greet Dénes Várjon, Miklós Perényi, Jenő Jandó, and not at least the concertmaster of the Pannon Philharmonic, Márta Deák violinist, who will be playing at the opening concert.

At two concerts of the Kodály Series, baroque composers’ works are on the program, at one of them, Barnabás Kelemen will be on the stage of the Pannon Philharmonic, as a conductor and a violinist, together with his wife, Katalin Kokas. At the series, we will host the Savaria Symphonic from Szombathely, led by Tamás Vásáry.

For the crossover-fans, the Breitner Series includes a film music concert, on which the worthily popular Harry Potter movies’ soundtrack would be listened to. In the spring, we could be part of a world-class jazz-symphonic evening with two great artists of jazz and symphonic music, Ferenc Snétberger and Markus Stockhausen on the stage.
